In our previous article we explain the advantages of staying in a hotel in Madrid taking into account, particularly the length of our stay. We talked about that when our stay is less than three days, often not worth seeking an apartment, but it is more practical staying in a hotel where we can rest from the few hours we are free after a long day of work or sightseeing.

2.- Hotel o Apartamento? Cuando es adecuado alojarnos en un Apartamento en Madrid

En nuestro anterior artículo explicamos las ventajas de alojarnos en un Hotel en Madrid teniendo en cuenta, principalmente la duración de nuestra estancia. Comentamos que cuando nuestra estancia va a ser inferior a 3 días, muchas veces, no merece la pena buscar un apartamento, sino que es más práctico buscar un hotel donde podamos descansar de las pocaas horas que nos queden libres despues de una larga jornada de trabajo o de turismo.

Pero si nuestra estancia va a ser superior a 3 noches y preferimos tener más espacio, intimidad y comodidades, y optamos por alojarnos en un apartamento de alquiler temporal la cosa a veces se complica: ¿Dónde buscar apartamentos de alquiler temporal? ¿qué tipo de apartamento necesito? ¿En qué zona de Madrid?

Esto, que parece fácil si conocemos la ciudad que vamos a visitar, no lo es tanto en el caso de que sea la primera vez que visitamos el lugar. No conocemos las zonas, ni sabemos nada de cómo movernos, ni de cuanto se tarda en los desplazamientos, ni de cómo son los apartamentos que se alquilan por días, semanas o meses.

Por eso, es fundamental que tengamos claro algunos aspectos:

1.- La zona donde queremos ubicarnos.

2.- El tipo de apartamento que necesitamos.

Dependiendo de si preveemos que estaremos mucho tiempo en casa o no, o de si sólo vamos a usar el apartamento para dormir, podemos elegir un tipo de apartamento u otro. Por supuesto el tipo de apartamento depende del número de personas que nos alojaremos. Si somos un grupo de amigos, o una familia que queremos estar juntos podemos elegir un apartamento de gran capacidad, o varios apartamentos en el mismo edificio o zona.

3.- Nuestro presupuesto. Que en ocasiones condicionará los aspectos anteriores.

En general, los apartamentos más pequeños, son más baratos. Si somos sólo una persona o una pareja podremos estar muy cómodos en un apartamento tipo estudio que normalmente cuenta con las mismas comodidades que los apartamentos de un dormitorio, con la única diferencia de que el dormitorio no es independiente.

Tips to find the perfect lodging in Madrid

1.- Hotel or Apartment in Madrid?: When is better to stay in an Hotel?

When we left home, either for work or for vacations, we have the dilemma of choosing a place where to stay.

If only we will be out one or two nights and we do not want to complicate, almost always the most practical is to find a hotel. 

The hotels are ideal if we have planned to spend all day away from home and we only have to use the room, often impersonal, to sleep in.

The hotels offer good services in quick visits to the city which are really appreciated by most of us: room service, restaurant, daily cleaning, etc..

 But the hotels do not offer services which are critical when we extend our stay.

In a hotel is difficult to be intimate. For example, we will always have to go through reception.

Nor can enjoy plenty of space. The rooms, although usually well equipped, have only enough space to accommodate our beds and a small desk where we can hardly work, or read a book. They seldom have a comfortable sofa. If we are tired, but it is not the time to go to bed, we will have to lay ourselves on the bedside reading our book or newspaper, because there has not usually no other comfortable place to sit.

Comfort is a very subjective matter. For many it is very comfortable to call room service to bring us a sandwich or our favorite beverage. But for others it is really inconvenient to have to always eat out, not having a relaxing time enjoying tea while we choose what clothes ourselves or what we will visit today.

In hotels it is assumed that when we are away from home we will be out the whole time, and that we are not leaving our home to "stay in" in a hotel room, but yes to be working, or to be spending all day sightseeing. So the hotel rooms are not ready to be able to stay, for example, a whole afternoon there.

And, although it is essential to find a hotel that is near the area where we will have to move around, so we will avoid unnecessary trips, we will never feel that the room hotel is our own shelter: we will always feel strange in their units, and just they are designed in advance, for anyone endears their stays.

So, on these trips lightning where only need a place to relax after a busy day of work or sightseeing, no sense to seek an apartment.

In this case it is important to find a hotel that is well located, their beds are comfortable and offers a good room service. And, of course: it is clean!

Live Holy Week in Spain

The Holy Week or Easter in Spain is perhaps more rooted tradition and which may surprise those who have the opportunity to enjoy it.

Many are surprised at the different Holy Week which can be found depending on the area or region where it is celebrated in Spain. For though in all Spanish regions, the Holy Week is a religious event, the way how are "lived" and "sense" change enormously from one region to another.

So, in central and northern Spain, we find a sober Holy Week, it seems like people are  seeking penance and repentance. The processions are quieter, the music is more solemn, and feelings are more hidden.

By contrast, in southern Spain, in Andalusia, Holy Week is characterized by an explosion of feelings, much more spontaneous, which people often end up singing "saetas" ... and others in tears.

To the uninitiated, and for many of us, just see how the people feel, or suffer is at least surprising. It has not only to do with religion, but much more with a old tradition that is still alive, and worth seeing and enjoying.

And it is also curious that in major cities such as Madrid continue to maintain this tradition as old.

Yes, in Madrid are still celebrating the traditional processions in downtown churches. In Madrid this tradition as old lives with all kinds of cultural events and exhibitions. 

And if you are really interested in knowing in depth the Holy Week in other places of Spain we recommend you visit the Easter of Salamanca, where you will appreciate the solemnity of the steps nestled in a beautiful historic city, UNESCO heritage. Zamora and Valladolid are also highly recommended.

For those who have more time, I suggest visiting the Holy Week in Seville or Malaga, both also very popular and interesting.

Disfruta la Semana Santa en España

 

La Semana Santa en España es, quizás, la tradición más arraigada y la que más puede sorprender a todos aquellos que tienen la oportunidad de disfrutarla.

Muchos se sorprenden de las diferentes Semanas Santas que pueden encontrar dependiendo de la zona o región donde se celebra en España. Porque aunque en todas las zonas la semana Santa es un acontecimiento religioso, la manera cómo es "vivida" y "sentida" cambia enormemente de una región a otra.

Así, en el centro y Norte de España, nos encontraremos con una Semana Santa sobria, recogida, que busca la penitencia y el arrepentimiento. Las procesiones son más silenciosas, la música más solemne,  y los sentimientos están más ocultos.

En cambio, en el Sur de España, en Andalucía, la Semana Santa se caracteriza por una explosión de sentimientos mucho más espontáneos,  que muchas veces acaban en cánticos…y otras en llanto.

 

Para los profanos, y para muchos de nosotros, el ver cómo sienten, o como sufren  los "cofrades" nos resulta, cuando menos sorprendente. No sólo tiene que ver con la religión, sino con una tradición muy arraigada que sigue viva, y que merece la pena ver y disfrutar.

Y curioso también resulta que grandes ciudades como Madrid sigan manteniendo esta tradición tan antigua.

Pues sí, en Madrid se siguen celebrando las tradicionales procesiones en varias Iglesias del centro. No es que Madrid se pare por ser Semana Santa, sino que esta tradición tan antigua convive con todo tipo de espectáculos culturales y exposiciones.

Y si realmente estáis interesados en conocer en profundidad la Semana Santa en España os recomendamos visitar la Semana Santa de Salamanca, donde apreciaréis la solemnidad de los pasos enclavados en una preciosa ciudad monumental, Patrimonio de la Unesco. También Zamora y Valladolid son especialmente recomendables.

 

Para los que tenéis más tiempo, os sugerimos visitar la Semana Santa de Sevilla o la de Málaga, ambas también de reconocido interés turístico.
